Prior to this, the town boundaries were the Mowbeck to the north, Wharf Rd to the south, River Witham to the east and the railway to the west. Grantham now included the parishes and townships of Spittlegate, Little Gonerby, New Somerby, Houghton & Walton, parts of Harrowby, the Grange and Earl's Fields.
